Beginner West African Drumming (Empire Grange)

In this high-energy class, participants will experience the joy of traditional West African drumming. The course explores the components of rhythm, and by the end, participants will have a basic understanding of hand and stick drum techniques, along with an appreciation for this rich musical tradition.

Level: No musical experience is necessary.

Supplies: Supplies are included, and participants may bring their own djembe or dunun if preferred.

With a focus on fostering confidence, enjoyment, and satisfaction, Dee teaches students not just the mechanics of drumming but also effective learning and practice strategies. Described as fun and energizing, Dee's classes create an engaging environment where students can thrive. Dee Desnoyers began her journey in West African drumming in 2006 and has since participated in multiple performing groups. She has learned from a variety of esteemed teachers and recently returned from an intensive study tour in Guinea, West Africa, with her teacher, Grandmaster Bolokada Conde. Dee is currently a proud member of the nonprofit performance group Fort Collins African Drum and Dance Collective in Fort Collins, Colorado.
