OLLI Talk: Medicare 101
OSHR 3114This course will explain all aspects of Medicare. Participants will learn about all Medicare components and the differences between plans and parts. You will learn what a Medicare Advantage plan is, how it works, and how it differs from a Medicare supplement (also known as Medigap). We will discuss enrollment periods and deadlines for individuals new to Medicare and those who wish to review their existing coverage. This class will examine the differences between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. By the end of this class, participants will have the tools to examine and choose a Medicare Advantage plan, a Prescription Drug plan, or a Medigap plan.
Alan Heileman is currently the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Coordinator for Northern Colorado. Alan has been active in the senior industry for more than 20 years in various capacities. Alan is the former President of the Elder Care Network, facilitator of an Alzheimer’s support group, and Chairman of the Board for the Partnership for Age Friendly Communities. He has worked for home care agencies as well as assisted living communities. In addition to being the SHIP Coordinator, Alan is presently with UC Health/Aspen Club serving as their Community Health Coordinator.
