Ways of Liberation: An Introduction to Alan Watts and Philosophies of Asia(DRAKE HALL)
OSHR 4092Never calling himself a guru or teacher but rather a “philosophical entertainer,” Alan Watts was nevertheless an influential 20th-century teacher instrumental in bringing the spiritual ways of the East to the Western World. He approached the eastern philosophies (which he did not call “religions” but rather “ways of liberation”) with a light and humorous touch. Using Watts’ books and lectures, we will be introduced to the philosophies of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Zen in a way that enlivens our hearts and broadens our understanding. Each of these teachings grows, weaves, and resonates with one another like a tree with many branches and roots that sprout groves of trees, like our wonderful Colorado Aspens. If you’ve wondered about the Eastern wisdom but been put off by the dry intellectualism of “PHILOSOPHY,” this is the course for you.
