China is an enigma to much of the world—mysterious, puzzling, difficult to understand. Yet understand we must, for China today is a dynamic player on the world stage. What happens in China does not stay in China. This class will probe the good and bad of contemporary life and governance in China. The objective is to match a realistic understanding of China with an often-misconstrued understanding.
